This article shows you how to add an age restriction to an entire department so you can prevent your store from selling age-restricted products, such as cigarettes and alcohol, to underage customers.

Before you begin

You must have permission to manage the Price Book.

Steps

1. Go to [Price Book] > [Items] > [Departments].
2. Select the department you want to restrict.
3. Click [Additional Options] near the top of the page.
4. Turn on [Sales Restriction] using the toggle.
5. Open the [Choose an option] dropdown menu.
6. Select the restriction you want to apply.
7. Click [Save] in the top right corner.

Tips & Warnings

• The restriction applies to every item inside the department.
• Make sure you choose the correct age restriction from the dropdown. Selecting the wrong option can either block legal sales or allow sales that should be blocked.
• The restriction will not work at the register until the price book is sent to your POS. Allow time for the update to reach your terminals before testing a sale.
• If the toggle for [Sales Restriction] is already on, check the dropdown to confirm the correct restriction is selected before saving.
