What is the case breakdown feature?
Optimizing Inventory Accuracy for Bulk Purchases
Introduction
The case breakdown feature is a powerful tool in XSite that tracks and automatically updates your inventory based on product purchased in bulk. For example, if you purchase cigarettes by the carton, the case breakdown feature will automatically update your pack quantity by “breaking down” a carton and adding that value in packs to your inventory automatically.
Case Breakdown in XSiteIO
- Navigate to ‘Price Book’ in the side menu, select ‘Items’, and then ‘Items’.
- Items are managed as Parent and Child relationships. In our example, a carton of cigarettes is the Parent item, and the individual packs are the Child items.
- This linkage allows the system to manage stock levels accurately when bulk items are broken into smaller selling units.
- From your item list, select the parent item, for example, ‘DU RED RG CRTN’.
- Locate and select the PLU for this product from the item list.
- Notice the ‘Unit of Order’ is set to carton and the ‘Case Size’ is 1.
- Locate and select the ‘More details…’ button.
- Navigate to the ‘Ordering’ submenu.
- Notice the box labeled ‘Individual Item for Case Break Down’. Inside you should see the individual child item within the carton. Take note of this item.
- Now, navigate back to your item list and select the pack of cigarettes from the previous step. In this case it will be ‘DU REG RG 25’.
- Select the PLU number to bring up item details.
- Notice the ‘Unit of Order’ is set to carton and the case size is 8.
- Locate and select the ‘More details…’ button.
- In the ‘Individual Item for Case Break Down’ box, you should see it is blank. This makes sense as this product cannot be broken down further.
- Scroll down to the ‘Quantity on Hand by Site’ submenu, review the current stock level for the individual packs.
- XSite connects the inventory of the carton to that of the packs. If the stock for the packs depletes to zero, the system will automatically deduct one carton from your inventory and update the pack quantity accordingly.
- This feature ensures that breaking down a Parent item into its Child items is managed seamlessly and automatically, maintaining inventory accuracy and efficiency.
